30 Was Fun, Now on to 31!

Hi Friend!

Today I turn the Big 31! I know I normally post on Wednesdays, but I wanted to share my birthday with you, so I’m posting today! I want to start by thanking you for following my family’s journey, praying for us, supporting Andrew’s books, A Gray Faith and The Ellie Project, giving me opportunities to come share my story, and for taking time weekly to read my blog posts. Having your support has really made this year extra special!

Yesterday, I had the amazing opportunity to speak at a leadership retreat for an incredible company. It’s difficult to put into words the level of gratitude I feel when I hear someone say my journey has encouraged and inspired them, or when someone opens up to me and shares their experience with loss. I feel so honored to connect on a deeper level and to bear witness to people’s courage and vulnerability as they share. I’m grateful my challenges are not in vain and are being used for good.

I was reflecting today on this past year and I was blown away when I started to mentally list all that’s happened. I experienced heartbreak, grief over the acceptance of my loss, published a new book (The Ellie Project), got certified as a life coach, went on a few dates (if you’re married, be thankful you don’t have to date in this day and age, because it’s a trip), finished my brand new keynote speech, and I officially created Bailey Heard Inc. for my speaking, writing, and coaching business. I also learned how to create a budget, manage a household, and simplify my life to be more manageable for me. WHEW!

I’ve learned a lot over the last three years, however there are still some days I wonder if I’ve made any progress at all. Then there are days like today, when all I need to do is reflect on the milestones from each year, and I know each of my tiny adjustments are adding up to me becoming more of the woman I desire to be. Sometimes it’s 10 steps forward and 20 steps back, but I’m becoming more resilient and find I bounce back a lot more quickly than I used to. I’m getting comfortable with the one constant in life—change. When I feel hurt or disappointed, I’m learning to not hold onto my pain for too long, but to feel it and allow it to pass through me. Then, I re-adjust and consciously choose a mindset that will support positive forward movement.

Now, I have a birthday request for you! In the comments below, I’d be so grateful if you could please share your thoughts on these two questions:

  1. What topic or idea did you get the most value from that I shared this year?
  2. What kind of topics or content would you like to see more of this next year?

It is my constant mission to be of service, and your input helps me to know what you find most valuable. This way I will have a clearer compass for the upcoming year, so I can support and encourage you! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this for me! I truly appreciate you spending time with me on my b-day! Sending you lots of love. Blessings.

    Happy Birthday Bailey!
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to see the world through your eyes each week. Your stories ARE inspirational. Sometimes the small mole hills feel like mountains.
Your journey helps me remember that I’m not alone. That I must take care of myself before I can help others.
I am also kicking off a new business, working full time with a two year old and a husband who suffers greatly from PTSD. Seeing you overcome each obstacle, no matter how big or small, with a positive attitude and the courage to try again when yesterday didn’t go just right keeps me going when I want to quit.
You are beautiful inside and out. I hope you and Ellie have an amazing day and I look forward to watching you blossom and become the woman God designed you to be!

I am so encouraged and inspired every time we talk. Your posts have been so great and practical, but I think the thing I am still so amazed by is, knowing what all you went through, and seeing (reading too) you CHOOSE joy over and over. What a gift your perseverance has been. Your example! Your life! Happy Birthday, by the way!!!

This is kind of random, but you have always been so great with people, so I would love to glean off of that wisdom. How to ask good questions. How to prepare socially for events, etc. How to get others talking and communicate with them that you’re a fan. You make people feel so seen and valued. Always have. Mwah!!!
