Blessed By Gobblers

Holy Moly! I seriously don’t even know where to begin.  I’ve spent a few days rolling around ideas in my head of how to express my full gratitude to the amazing community of Cuero, TX (aka fighting gobblers) and everyone who helped and participated in the benefit this weekend.  I’ve come to the conclusion that words will never fully express the gratitude I feel in my heart, but I’m sure going to try.

This weekend the community put together a benefit for Andrew.  I’ve never been a part of anything like this, so I had no idea what to expect.  The whole entire day was dedicated to supporting Andrew’s medical fund.  There was everything from a 5K run, golf tournament, lunch, carnival, softball tournament, live and silent auctions, t-shirts, bracelets, dinner, drinks, bands, dancing, a raffle and so much more.  I was blown away by the generosity of the entire community to come together and bless our family in the biggest way.

When I moved to Cuero a year ago, I wasn’t sure what it would be like to live in a smaller town, honestly it’s been the most amazing experience.  As I’m writing this, members of First Baptist Church Cuero are taking care of our yard (which is a lot of work), bringing us meals, painting our house, watching my daughter and helping me organize.  I’m so amazed at how willing and excited everyone has been to help out our family.  I never anticipated being in a place of needing to ask for help.  Honestly, asking for help made me really uncomfortable at first, but after seeing how loving and generous people are my perspective has changed.

I’ve always loved the idea of being a part of a community that really cares and reaches out when someone needs their help, but I never knew community could be as sweet as it’s been in Cuero, TX.  I love that I not only know my neighbors (one of them is over here right now taping my house so it can get painted), but that we genuinely care about how each person is doing and we help to meet each other’s needs.

The way this town has ministered to me personally will impact my life forever.  I want to give like they’ve given and love like they’ve loved us (both selflessly and unconditionally).  I didn’t realize that people could be so invested in our story and that they would genuinely care and want to help in whatever way possible.  I want to be like them! THANK YOU to the community of Cuero, TX and to all who have loved and supported us in everyway.  You are my hero.  I love you! Blessings.

PS In case you were wondering the benefit raised over $100, 000 towards Andrew’s medical fund.  I can’t even talk about it without tearing up.  Wowzers.

I cannot think of a more deserving young family for the town of Cuero to adopt and nurture and love. Blessings to all who live in the area and were so generous in thoughts, words and deeds. There is no love like the love of a small Texas town for its own. Love you, Bailey. You, Andrew, Ellie, and Andrew’s family are in my prayers daily. Still wish I was there to hug you.

I just read your blog and have been so blessed by you and Andrew. I have never met him but truly believe he is touching lives that will forever be changed. Hearing from a wife during this challenging time is giving all of us encouragement. Bailey, I love you and thank you for sharing with us. My prayers continue for you on your journey.

Saturday was amazing! James and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was the best feeling to see everyone there for one reason, to support you, Andrew, and Ellie. We continue to keep all of you in our prayers. If there is anything we can do for you please let me know.
    Hugs to all of you!

Dear Bailey, I want to thank you for greeting each runner as they finished the 5 k. I was one of them and it was my first time to meet you. You won’t remember me (too many new faces), but I want you to know that I will never forget you. You have been such an inspiration to me. To stand next to your husband with so much courage, love and grace at such a young age knowing, short of a miracle, you will lose him to this dreaded disease, is inspiring. God knew what He was doing when he joined you two as husband and wife and now we must continue in the knowledge that He still knows what He is doing. Faith, you are living it. Please know that for all you and Andrew have received through this benefit, you have given back
as well. God’s peace be with you.
